About the Show

Bright Star is a musical written and composed by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. It is
set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina in 1945–46 with flashbacks to 1923.
Inspired by a true event, BRIGHT STAR tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption
set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s.
When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II,
he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection,
Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power
to transform not only her own life, but the lives of everyone around her. The Ensemble
is a powerful company of varied characters, each responsible for telling their version of
the story with charm, joy and a rich depth of emotion.
